High-spec permanent residence on Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown.
Using KNX building control system, Simon wall switches ensures a minimalistic look and feel to the walls.
Centralised control of the whole house using an
app (tablet, smart phone and PC web browser) for lighting and shading.
Scheduled events – towel rails and feature
lighting activate/deactivate automatically.
Night mode, when activated from the client’s
bedside, changes the behavior of the lighting sensors to triggers the hallway
lights at 20%. Day mode is then
reactivated at sunrise unless executed before by the homeowner.
On this project, the client’s brief was to maximise the entertaining
spaces downstairs whilst providing comfortable living upstairs.
After taking the client to a previous project I had completed, the Games
Room was immediately redesigned into being a Personal Cinema, with native 4K
projection, raised cinema seating, Starfield lighting and acoustically-treated
movie posters. The Living/Dining KItchen and Outdoor Living areas were
added too but the ceiling was a real feature so we had to consider the
placement carefully. We decided to have the speakers discretely installed
in behind the timber battens, with the tweeters exposed for maximum effect.
A unique architectural feature is the opening louvres on the North-West
wall. These are operable individually in each room, and also globally
with the use of schedules. Smart lighting and automation of items such as
towel rails increase the comfort level of the house.
With a public walking track along the lake front, security and privacy
were concerns so CCTV, video intercom and electronic access are installed and
can track the people entering the property, and also those who enter the
building.
